New South African hotel management group launched to revolutionise the industry BON Hotels’ founders Guy Stehlik and John Saliba have opened many hotels throughout their careers. Guy, now aged 42, has been exposed to the hotel environment all his life: at the age of eight he was doing holiday and weekend work as a pageboy at the Heerengracht Hotel. The hotel has enjoyed an incredibly successful first year of trading, with exceptionally happy guests and healthy finances.

Picture: Jason Boud Cape Town - Sahara Park Newlands cricket grounds could soon boast a new 148-bedroom hotel, the first stadium hotel in Africa. Guy Stehlik, chief executive officer of BON Hotels, said the hotel group was involved in final negotiations with the Western Province Cricket Association about the project.
A revolutionary new hotel management concept is to help newly launched BON Hotels make its mark in the cut-throat and overtraded South African hospitality sector. Launched in Cape Town on November 15, the new hotel management and marketing group is the brainchild of Guy Stehlik, son of Otto Stehlik, who founded the Protea Hotel Group, Africa’s largest hotel management company. Stehlik says the South African hospitality industry is experiencing exceptionally tough times, despite an increase in international and domestic tourism last year. He says more than 20% of South African hotels are unprofitable, with game lodges, five-star boutique hotels and remote country inns being the worst hit. A current oversupply of hotel rooms is only expected to even out by 2016. “There are scary levels of distress amongst hotels throughout the Garden Route,” he says.

BON Hotels’ CEO and founder Guy Stehlik says, "Right now, despite an encouraging increase in foreign tourism (up 11,3% last year, with Asian visitors up 24% and domestic tourism up 8,3%), the South African hotel sector is going through quite exceptionally tough times. The latest estimates are that over 20% of South African hotels are non-profitable and a large number are in various stages of distress.
The 15th November will see a new hotel management and marketing group, BON Hotels, launched in South Africa. The launch is scheduled to take place at the historic Sahara Park Newlands Cricket Grounds in Cape Town. BON Hotels’ CEO and founder is Guy Stehlik and his partner is John Saliba. Stehlik and Saliba have opened many hotels throughout their careers – “an operation requiring specialist skills”. Guy, now aged 42, has been exposed to the hotel environment all his life: at the age of eight he was doing holiday and weekend work as a pageboy at the Heerengracht Hotel. Stehlik is also the owner of a very successful hotel in Cape Town which was officially opened in October 2011.
